On "Dating" DEVONthink

Here is an interesting (and critical) take on DevonThink, the highly regarded Mac outliner/pim. To say the least, it is very different from Steven Johnson's positive account. I tend to agree with the more critical view. (See also Lyrical Connections.)

I have to agree with the criticism of DevonThink Pro. I bought a license a year ago when the beta for version 2.0 was introduced (and, by the way, 11 months later, we still have not gotten the final release) with great expectations based upon the many glowing reviews. I suppose if my information management needs crept into the thousands (or 10s of thousands) of articles, I might find DT useful. But it is a lot more bother than it is worth for hundreds of items, which is more my speed. For that purpose, Yojimbo works just as well and is a lot more user-friendly.
