Still a Good Idea

The Neo is now available for $169. That is a reduction of $50.00.

See also the earlier post Neo Alphasmart. But see also this brand new Psion, which is not cheap. It costs more than $700.00. While it may be more sexy than the Neo, it seems to have just 2-4 hour worth of battery life. The Neo runs for about 700 hours (or almost a year) on three AA Batteries.

It fits well with Lo-fi computing.

I'm curious about how the software works. Are you limited to just one file and appending text to that, or can you create multiple files?

The device can store 8 files. They are just stored in plain text format, however. Exchange between the device and the computer is very simple. You open a text editor or whatever application you want to send the text to. Connect the device to a USB port on the computer and press Send. It works somewhat like a keyboard and sends every letter to the file. Works well.

What I like most about it is that it is instant on/off and completely distraction free, as you can only enter text. (It works very well with Wiki Formatting because that is just plain text as well.)
