Goodbye Brainstorm

I have written about Brainstorm before, as I liked it a lot.[1] It was/is a capable program, a good alternative to an outliner and great for sorting things out.

Nothing really happened since the original developers sold the program a few years back. The last release date is June 23, 2008. It seems to have changed ownership again, and a lot of things have happened: none of them good!

I understand the reason for the new name "BrainstormWFO"—at least “sort of.” Searching for “Brainstorm” returns many irrelevant results, if you want to find out about this program. But Brainstorm is not an outliner.

What is much worse is the hype perpetrated on the new Website. I find it absolutely distasteful and irresponsible. (If you don’t trust me on this, check it out yourself.)

There may be others who like this sort of thing, but I doubt that I know anyone like that.

It seems that the new owner is not a programmer either, but even if he is, I fear for the integrity of a program that I have used for such a long time.

This program would have deserved better!

Hi, Manfred,

I believe the person you are referring to (initials JB) is not a new developer. He's only associated as a marketer with the developer (Oliver) who took over from the original two developers (David and Marck). It indeed has been frustrating to see Brainstorm stagnate; Oliver has several times insisted he is moving forward with development, and then nothing has happened. JB seems to be trying to promote a new system of information management that makes use of Brainstorm -- but his web site is so confusing it isn't any wonder that it seems that he is a new developer. But I spoke with Oliver the other day on the phone. He had a web site developer contact me to ask questions about my background as a user of Brainstorm, so something is in the works. It is entirely reasonable to approach it with skepticism, however, until we see genuine results. In the meantime, I don't think JB is helping (although I believe his intentions are good) with his confusing web site.

Steve,
Thanks for letting me know.

It looked to me that this JB (Joseph Dantes) had bought it. In fact, in one of his early posts he seemed to be suggesting this, but it is no longer there.

As I said, I would have liked more development, but this new "approach" is just too much.

I suspend judgment on Dantes' intentions (just do a search on him).

Yikes. His blog is a little scary, indeed!

And what about this: "How to Drive a Cheating Girlfriend to Suicide"? I am not going to provide the link because the post is absolutely disgusting!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take that on board.

Do you like the new version any better:

Manfred, Joseph Dantes is NOT the developer of this project. That guy is a racist and has nothing to do with Brainstorm. Just watch the video on the website.

Before you start any attempt of defamation, please get your facts straight...

I am not trying defaming anyone. I just pointed out a few links (which keep changing or disappearing, by the way).

What is "this" project? "Brainstorm" or "Cyberorganize". The last time I checked, Joseph Dantes was still claiming responsibility for the latter.

This one is still cached, even though it was deleted.

And this one is still on "Joseph Dantes" blog, though I am not sure for how long: Brainstorm

And what about this one: Joseph Dantes?

And this one, by "Joseph Dantes Buchignani Cyberorganize?

Hence JB?

I don't know ... it's possible that "JB" and Jopseph Dante are different persons, but I have my doubts.

This will be the last comment on this post

Couldn't resist one more, as this is the "smoking gun"! From the site of the racist himself: Cyberorganize is fully orperational. I have included the text, as I have a feeling the entry will also be deleted:

I’ve just spent a lot of time prettifying the posts, putting them into the proper order, and generally removing crappiness.

If you’ve been waiting to dig into Cyborganize, now’s the time. It’s ready for mass consumption at last.
Cyberorganize

Oh, I apologize. Cyborganize is dead to me, then. I won't support racist idiots... Sorry, Manfred.

Hi. Are there other Brainstorm users out there? Are you aware of any active discussion forum other than the "official" one that is full of trash?

look at the outliner forum. There are some interesting comments (though they are old by now).
