A Thorough Discussion of the Alphasmart Neo

Here is a post at Thinking on the Margin that refers to several other reviews, including a very thorough four-part discussion of the Alphasmart.

Since there are several complaints about the price, I just want to point out that it is now just $119.00.

Still limping along with my old AlphaSmart 3000. Keyboard is getting really stiff and clunky, which seems like a weird thing for a keyboard to do as it ages, but I've heard the same from lots of other users. Of course I've had the thing for nearly 15 years now (only on its third, maybe fourth set of batteries).

It still gets use, though its been more sporadic as my new laptop is really small and cheap (Acer Aspire One 725 series; technically a "netbook" but same screen size and all around better everything than my old Dell Latitude D430 which was considered an "ultraportable" and thus was quite expensive), so I can wedge using it into alot of different parts of my day that just weren't viable before. Of course, I do have a Neo2 on my wish list for my upcoming birthday ...

Family went to the Magic Kingdom for a few days over this past Thanksgiving weekend. The AS3K went with me into the park (I was carrying the backpack, so what did anyone else care, eh?). Laptop stayed in the hotel room to capture each days writing and sync it with Dropbox (and maybe a little more writing). Lets just say the AS3K helped me write enough words that week that I managed to break the NaNoWriMo goal of 50k words on about November 28th. And learning to keyboard one handed while standing up on line for the Dumbo ride was pretty fun.
